You Can Lose Weight Without Dieting

Hey there 🙂

Today I will be sharing with you a few ways I have used myself to lose weight without dieting. I personally struggled with obesity for 18 years. I would often say to myself: You can lose weight without dieting, just come up with ways to do so and take action daily!

This is because I absolutely hated dieting, even the thought of it. I had to discover ways to lose weight without involving fad diets/dieting.

In the 18  years I had attempted so many diets in the hope to lose weight and reach my goal. Sadly, I would quit by the second or third day of starting a diet. As soon as I would see the word ‘DIET’, anxiety would fill my heart and I just knew I would fail. And I did. Many times over! I would lose a few kg’s here and there, only to put them back on and more.

My final weight-loss attempt…

In 2014, I started my final weight-loss attempt. I said to myself: “This time, I really have to succeed because my doctor told me I am on the verge of Type 2 Diabetes, I have to do this or my health is on the line”. So I will share with you a few ways that I personally used myself to lose weight without following a weight-loss diet or FAD diet.

What prompted me to REALLY succeed this time was the horrible day when my doctor told me that my blood test results are no good. She told me if I don’t do something FAST, type 2 diabetes is just around the corner for me. I didn’t want that, no way. I had children to look after and to be a role model to. I wanted to change my lifestyle so that I would be a good influence on them as well. This time it wasn’t just about me.

So here are a few ways you can lose weight without dieting, from my own personal experience….

Know your why

I can’t even tell you how important this step is! If your why is strong, if your why hurts to the core then this alone can help you push through all the challenges of weight-loss. I had to dig deep within me and ask myself “Why do I really want to lose weight? Is it just so I look better? Is it just so that I can wear beautiful smaller clothes? Is it just to prove to my friends and family that I can do it?

In the past, in all my failed attempts to lose weight, I wanted to lose weight so that I can look like I did in my teenage years. I wanted to lose weight so that I can shop at beautiful shops with small sizes, not plus sizes.

But was that enough for my why? No, those 2 reasons did not keep me motivated enough when I would have tough days, such as days when I would feel more hungry, or have uncotrollable cravings or even felt down/depressed and all you want to do is stuff your face with comfort food. I’m sure you can relate to that right? Especially if you are female 🙂

It was only after my blood tests results that showed how close I am to Type 2 Diabetes….that I really knew I HAD TO do something. Those blood test results woke me up. Those test results inspired my WHY. Those test results really hurt and scared me as well.

Those test results prompted me to come up with my strong WHY and start taking action. So…please write your own WHY, be very honest. In my second book: “My Natural Weight-loss Recipe”, the first ingredient on my natural weight-loss recipe list is: Get a Blood Test! Why? Because it will let you know what is happening in your body and what impact all the excess weight is having on your health.

Change your mindset

Why is this step so important? And how can this really help you lose weight without dieting? Well it’s simple. This step has helped me personally to lose 77 pounds within 15 months without dieting. This only happened because I changed my mindset.

Before my final weight-loss attempt, I had tried to lose weight so many times only to fail over and over. Why? Because my mindset was WRONG.

For starters, my WHY wasn’t strong enough. I had to change my mindset and think differently about weight-loss. I had to succeed because I wanted my health back, and not just to look good and wear nice, cute petite clothes. That just wasn’t enough.

I had to stop resenting people that could eat everything and never put on weight. That only made me bitter and made me feel like I was broken and they were not. I started telling myself that even skinny people can be sick. If it’s not obesity, it’s something else.

Be kind to yourself

We all battle some kind of sickness and disease. Unfortunately, obesity is one that can be ‘seen’. That is a good thing because you see it, you are aware of it and you are going to finally do something about it!

Finally I started thinking differently when it came to weight-loss. Instead of ‘dieting’, I started thinking that I need to adapt to a healthy lifestyle. I need to choose healthier foods because of how good they are for my body, my organs, my mental health, my skin, etc.

I started telling myself that if I make healthier choices, it will benefit me in so many ways. If I continue to make unhealthy choices in food, I will continue to be in pain, put on more weight and of course I would be a type 2 diabetic as well as welcome all the other diseases that are attached to obesity.

Self-talk is very helpful and effective when you are working on your mindset. Try it and you will experience it for yourself. Change your mindset and it will change your life and the choices you make!

Say NO to sugary drinks

If you are someone that loves soft drinks, beer and even fruit juices, saying NO to all these will cut down so many calories in a day and you will see weight-loss every week.

Lets say for example that you drink a can on coke per day. A typical 300 ml can of coke (not diet coke), has 129 calories. If you drink one a day, that means you are drinking  2,100 calories per week, just from coke!

By cutting that can of coke out of your life you will be cutting out 2,100 calories per week and a whole lot of other nasties. For example sugar. Sugar is a chemical. It is VERY bad for the liver and it is addictive. The more sugar you have the more sugar your body craves. By cutting out that can of coke, your sugar cravings will be a lot less and even settle down. Imagine the extra calories you get rid off. With that comes more natural weight-loss.

What about diet coke?

Thinking of switching to diet  coke? DON’T even think about it. The sweetener they use to sweeten that stuff is poison for your liver. The liver doesn’t actually recognize aspartane! It destroys your liver and eventually leads to liver cirrosis.

Back in the day only alcoholics were known to get liver cirrosis because of the effects of alcohol. These days, liver cirrosis is increasing more than ever in people that don’t even drink alcohol. Why? because of all the sugar in almost all the products in the supermarket (even bread), as well as the popularity of ‘diet’ soft drinks which are loaded with aspartane. Pure poison for the liver.

I personally drink plain natural mineral water if I feel like something fizzy. These days you can find flavoured mineral water as well. They do not have sugar and do not have artificial sweeteners of any kind.

Give these simple tips a try…

Finally, don’t underestimate the power of the simple ways to lose weight without dieting I have shared with you in this post! This is exactly what I implemented into my life back in 2014 when I started out on my final weight-loss journey. These are tried by me personally and proven to work because I have lost 77 pounds since I introduced these 2 simple steps into my daily life.

  1. There are unlimited number of diets out there and many of them are very good. But none of them can be effective if you are not determined to change the way you think about diet and food in general. There is no point sweating in the gym only to go and eat all the calories after finishing again. If we can change the way we think then the rest is not so hard as we may think. But this first step is also the most hard one.

    1. Hi Stratos, yes, you are so right! We underestimate the power of the mind. Also, we are controlled by our unconscious mind from all the years of practicing unhealthy habits. For example without even realizing, sometimes when we are sad or down, we go for a snack and it’s usually unhealthy (sugar and high carbs). The unconscious mind remembers that and registers it for next time we feel down, depressed or sad…and it automatically leads us to sugar and high carb foods. It has become like a drug for the body. The trick is to not allow food to control us but to have our mindset right and be prepared to make the right choices especially in vulnerable moments. Thank you for reading my post and I hope you have enjoyed it 🙂

  2. First, I want to say, thank you for sharing your story and using your experience to help others.  It definitely takes a strong internal motivation to take inspired action.  Forced action from external motivation is difficult to keep up.  I also love that the only food related tip you offered is to avoid sugary drinks and the rest were mindset related.  Mindset is so important!  I have a hard and fast rule that I do not drink soda or other sugary drinks, ever!  It’s served me very well :).

    1. Hi Molly, thank you so much! I am so happy you have enjoyed my post. Yes, these days there is sugar in everything and it is the biggest enemy in weight-loss. It is also the liver’s biggest enemy and our liver is the largest fat burning organ in our body. If we take care of it well, weight-loss can happen almost effortlessly and natural.

  3. Hello Irina, losing weight is a daily argument our days. When I was younger, I tried diets, and I agree with you about them. I had results sometimes, but later these lose kilos can gain again rapidly. During my pregnancy, I add gestational diabetes, and I risk having diabetes type 2. My doctor informed me last month that my weight must be lower. I agree that all start my changing the mindset. I will try your recommendations here.

    Thank you for sharing it

    1. Hi Alketa, thank you for your kind comment on my post. Yes, weight gain for me started while being pregnant with my babies. In m second pregnancy with my daughter, I almost reached gestational diabetes as well. diets never worked for me either. What did work was educating myself about a healthy lifestyle and change of mindset, as well as evaluating my ‘why’ and just taking action daily  remembering my ‘why’ every day. If you have questions about my 2 books or products I recommend, or just my journey, please contact me anytime on my website or here in comments 🙂

  4. Hi,

Thanks for this post. It blesses my developed eating habit. I call it my personal diet and light exercise.

Three years from now, my doctor advice me to watch my weight, lose some for me to be able to maintain balance.

What I did is to reduce my meal amount, particularly rice, breads and sugary drinks. I also refused desserts.

If I get hungry, I ate fruits or salad vegetables without the dressing.

I also had  of therapeutic exercise of about 1.5 hours . With that new habit, I only loss about 10 pounds.

Lately, I have been cheating, eating more and drinking soda from time to time. But I would like to go back to the discipline I have developed.

Do you see my personal diet and light exercise fine or do you have more recommendation that I can add to it?

    1. Hi Rose, it is good if you can go back to exercising 40 min per day, 5 times per week. When you exercise it is good to break a sweat. I do moderate to brisk walking on the treadmill for 40-45 min per day. Having said that, the most important is what you eat and drink. I have lost 77 pounds and I wrote about my experience and journey in my book: My 18 Year Weight-loss Journey. I share what I did to lose those 77 pounds. It all starts with you having a clear WHY and also being in the right mindset. From then on, you take action daily towards a healthier you. You can check out my e-book here:
